Cox's Bazar


Its the district of Chittagong devision. It is named cox's bazar.It is one of the largest and longest sea beach in the world.It is located 150 km of south Chittagong. The other name of Cox's bazar is "Panowa", which means "yellow water".
Cox's Bazar district with an area of 2491.86 km², is located at 21°35′0″N 92°01′0″E / 21.583333°N 92.016667°E / 21.583333; 92.016667 and bounded by Chittagong District on the north, Bay of Bengal in the south, Bandarban District on the east, and the Bay of Bengal on the west. Major rivers include matamuhuri, bakkhali, Reju Khal, Naf, Maheshkhali channel and Kutubdia channel. The official area of the city of Cox's Bazar is 6.85 km².

The modern name is being named by the name of Captain Cox, an army officer serving in British India.he died in 1978.

The history of Cox's Bazar came from Mughal period. Mughal prince Shah Shuja passed through the hilly territory of  Cox's Bazar.
After the Mughal this came under the control of the Tipras and Arakanese.
After ending British rule Cox's Bazar remained part of East Pakistan.Captain Adv. Fazlul karim the 1st Chairman of Cox's Bazar municipality esatblished the Tamarisk forest along the sea beach to draw tourismto the town and also protecting the beach from tide.
At last, In 1984 Cox's Bazar was made a district.

 There are eight upazilas under this district. they are given bellow :
1. Chakaria
2. Cox's bazar sadar Upazila
3.Kutubdia upazila
4.Maheshkhali upazila.
5.Ramu upazila
6. Teknaf upazila.
7. Ukhia upazila.
8. Pekua upazila.
